Help With an Adaptable Mindset
Life can throw us curveballs that feel unfair. In the case of childhood and adolescents, the truth can seem contradictory to what's expected and knock you off balance. When this happens, it's a great teaching moment. Have a conversation acknowledging the truth of the situation with empathy like, "I understand it's disappointing and hurts. I’m so sorry this happened to you" - essentially letting them know it happens and it's okay.
Strength Can Be Found In Weakness and Lead to Growth
Share the value that can come from gaining strength during times of uncertainty. This leads to continued growth and capability to thrive when under pressure and taking risks.
Uncomfortable Feelings Are Okay
An ideal of "feel good" feelings, all the time, and avoiding the "bad" feelings can make moving forward through uncertainty a struggle. It's important for children and teens to understand that uncomfortable feelings will happen and it's okay when they do.
If your child or teen is working through struggles with uncertainty, I can help.
