Secondary Traumatic Stress for Educators: Understanding and Mitigating the Effects

The article “Secondary Traumatic Stress for Educators: Understanding and Mitigating the Effects,” explains how American school children, whom have experienced trauma, are having an effect on educators. The condition, secondary traumatic stress (STS), creates symptoms similar to those of post-traumatic stress disorder. Stephen P. Hydon, a clinical professor at the University of Southern California, states secondary traumatic stress is not well understood for educators. One recent study found that over 200 school staff reported very high levels of STS.
